It is now official, there will be NO fishing for salmon off the California coast in 2024. This is the 2cd year in a row. Last time this happened was 2008-2009 and is only the 4th time in history. closure is due to several factors with the severe drought and low water levels having greatly effecting spawning. Water policies are another more complicated topic but also add to our management problems. Be aware that 80% of our fish are hatchery fish. The fishery will be back. In the meantime we will be targeting Halibut, Striped Bass and Rock Fish per regulations.

While most of the time it is about catching great fish sometimes you don’t yesterday March 19 Morgan family charter was one of those days. On the other side, the weather was spectacular. We had a lot in common. His son and grandson were visiting from Germany and the weather just didn’t get any better. We had three bites got one striped bass the seasons just starting.
