Hochseeangeln in St. Augustine
Hochseeangeln in St. Augustine
Not many cities can brag about having enormous historical significance and incredibly diverse wildlife, but St. Augustine is definitely one of them. Numerous tourists aim to explore the oldest town in the continental US, but die-hard anglers know the best way to experience it is on the water. The offshore fishing St. Augustine offers is a favorite among many of them, and for good reason!
The bountiful waters of the Gulf Stream are easily accessible through Saint Augustine Inlet and if you travel far enough, you can land all those deep sea species you always dreamed of, including Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Swordfish, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, and more.
What type of trip is right for me?
Quick Trips
Shorter, 4–6 hour trips are perfect for beginners and families with kids and will usually take you exploring the offshore reefs and wrecks. St. Augustine charter boats can also take you farther offshore in pursuit of Billfish and other A-listers if you book longer, 10–12 hour trips.
Full Day Trips
These trips will see you exploring the offshore reefs and wrecks, as well as other deep-sea hotspots anywhere from 10–30 miles offshore. Depending on the bite and the trip length, you'll be trolling or bottom fishing for Amberjack, Barracuda, Cobia, Kingfish, Snapper, Grouper, Seabass, Sharks, and more. You can also potentially catch Mahi Mahi, Bonito, and even Sailfish if the stars align.
Extended Full Day Trips
To catch the biggest of big, book 10 or 12-hour trips. Longer St. Augustine fishing charters can take you anywhere from 40 to 70 miles offshore in pursuit of various deep sea stars. This includes Marlin, Sailfish, Blackfin Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Kingfish, Bonito, and more. In addition to trolling, you can also do some bottom fishing for an incredible variety of Snapper, Grouper, Triggerfish, Porgy, and many others.
How to Prepare
No fishing licenses are needed when offshore fishing in St. Augustine with a licensed charter. Make sure to pack your lunch and drinks, sunscreen, hats, and layered clothing. Taking seasickness meds the night before the trip is always a good idea. Most of the St. Augustine fishing trips come inclusive with high-quality fishing gear and catch cleaning (tips are always appreciated).
Whether you're interested in bagging some delicious bottom species or landing the biggest deep sea superstars, offshore fishing in St. Augustine will give you that, and even more. All aboard!
