Capt. Alex Short runs trips out of Destin aboard a 26’ Worldcat. These waters are known for Snappers and Mahi Mahi and he will show you how to catch them, whether you’re trolling or bottom fishing. With extensive knowledge of the area, he has a trick or two up his sleeve, and the only way to learn is to join him out on the water!

These waters are known for Cobia, Red Snapper, Vermilion Snapper, Gray Triggerfish, Gag Grouper, Kingfish, Sailfish, Mangrove Snapper, Spanish Mackerel, and more – with any luck, you’ll have tight lines in no time. You can expect to do some trolling, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area.

Thinking of bringing the whole family? Kids are absolutely welcome!

Capt. Alex will provide high end rods and reels for you and your group to use all day comfortably. A wide variety of trolling lures are available for use too.

Your fishing license for the day is covered by the charter boat, just show up ready for a good time! Some fish have special regulations, including when you can keep them. Simply ask and your captain can tell you more. It’s recommended to bring sunglasses, a hat, sunblock (non-spray), and bottled water. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass.

    If this is your first time on the Gulf of Mexico this might be your trip! We usually don’t travel too far from shore, maybe 2-3 miles, trolling along the way for King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, and Bonito...or whatever else you snag! There's always the option to bottom fish where you can hook amberjack, grouper, vermilion snapper, and many others! It's a great time but depending on time of year, you may be limited on what you can keep due to size or season.

    The Deep Sea-Nearshore Gulf is our most popular trip and typically produces the most consistent action. We are usually fishing within 2-5 miles off the beach and are always in sight of land. However, we can go out as far as 9 miles. On our Nearshore Gulf trip, we typically target various Snapper species including Red, Mangrove, Mingo, White, and Lane Snappers. We also target Mahi, Blackfin Tuna, Triggerfish, King and Spanish Mackerel, Cobia, and Grouper. All of these reef fish are sporty and tasty.

This spring fishing has started off to a good start. Water temperatures range from the high 50s to the low 70s depending on the weather week to week. Once water temperatures stabilize the bite should be more consistent. Spanish mackerel have been found inshore and outside of the pass; easily targeted on a four hour trip trolling and using live bait, incoming tides seem to be producing greater numbers of Spanish mackerel. Offshore, triggerfish have been very active. Several keeper size triggerfish have been caught. The Vermilion snapper bite has began to become very consistent, and their table fair is unmatched; limiting out has been a common trend on 6-8hr charters. Several Gag grouper have been caught and safely released. The Gulf is coming alive and this season is shaping up to be one for the books.

The Gulf is heating up with water temps in the low 70’s and the fish are loving it! This week the snaper bite was hot and we were fortunate enough to harvest a 70.3lb cobia and safely release a beautiful Gag grouper!
