Fliegenfischen Angeln in South Carolina
Fliegenfischen Angeln in South Carolina
South Carolina’s fly fishing scene is gaining popularity – and for good reason too. Not only does the state boast hundreds of miles of freshwater streams and lakes suitable for tackling fish on the fly, but anglers are now starting to discover the riches of the inshore bays and flats too. Come fly fishing in South Carolina and you could do it all!
The aforementioned streams are home to some of the best Trout action in the south. Brown, Brook, and Rainbow Trout all call the northern rivers home, giving you plenty of species to target. Hit the lakes in the centre of the state, and it’s all about Bass. Striped Bass gain the crown for most sought-after fish on the fly, but Largemouth and Smallmouth varieties are also available.
When it comes to saltwater, Redfish takes centre stage. These feisty creatures are pretty much synonymous with fly fishing in southern SC. But that’s not all. Spotted Seatrout often swim alongside Reds, while Tarpon come through in summer. Add to that the spring Cobia run, and you’ve got a world-class fishery.
With such a range of fishing grounds and species comes a range of options for anglers. Beginners can make use of half day trips to learn the ropes. Meanwhile, those of you with some more experience can take advantage of full day voyages or even longer adventures to really get to grips with everything South Carolina has to offer.
Hit the Chattooga, Saluda, and Chauga Rivers for a back-to-basics fly fishing trip, where Trout is the name of the game. You can also find these prized creatures in Lake Jocassee. Other lakes such as the Santee Cooper reservoirs and Lake Murray are prime Bass-hunting grounds. Meanwhile, the best saltwater action comes in and around Charleston and Georgetown.
