What species can I catch?
An offshore marathon can get you Wahoo, Yellowfin, Bluefin Tuna, Albacore, Mahi, and Blue and White Marlin. The warm currents of the gulf stream are not that far away, which means that even in low season you can get an enviable catch out there. By out there, we mean anything from 30 miles plus. It may take about an hour and a half to get there, so anything less than a full day trip can be hit and miss. If you want to get the most out if, find an extended charter. Local captains run trip up to 12 hours, and sometimes you can even find a multiday venture into the Atlantic. Don’t get us wrong, super big game is not the only thing to target here. As you head out, you will encounter Mackerel, Mahis, and other pelagics and bottom fish. Speaking of bottom fish, at the 30 mile mark, you can get exquisite bottom catch - Snapper, Tilefish, Sea Bass Grouper, and many more.
When should I go deep sea fishing?
To be honest, it can change. Sailfish work well from June to September. Mahi Mahi peak from May until late summer, while Yellowfin and Bluefin Tuna are excellent in October and November and then again from March to May. Wahoo are present throughout the year, but bite the best during the summer months. Marlin are on the chew from May as well, and stay consistent until August. As for the bottom fish, they are found year round, but just check the limits and regulations before the trip. Once you decide on the date, come for your fish of a lifetime.
