Nestled on the breathtaking Paradise Coast, Marco Island is famous for its amazing inshore angling. However, its offshore waters also offer an abundance of fish to anyone willing to make the journey. And to do so, all you have to do is hop aboard one of the many Marco Island deep sea fishing charters.
The offshore fishing grounds in this part of Florida are home to numerous artificial reefs and sunken wrecks. These, in turn, play host to a number of exciting fish species. As you explore them, you'll usually reel in the likes of Red, Vermilion, Lane, Mutton, or Mangrove Snapper. There are also Black, Red, Gag, and Goliath Grouper prowling about, as well as Amberjack.
If you decide to do some trolling instead, expect to target the likes of Spanish and King Mackerel, Cobia, Barracuda, and more. While these can be encountered closer to shore, the main action takes place 20+ miles off the coast of Marco Island.
Of course, if you go far enough, you'll have even more fish to reel in at your leisure. Along the distant deep sea spots, more than 40 miles offshore, you'll see Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, and Tuna gobble up your bait. Or, you can fish the Air Force Radio Towers for giant Goliath Grouper, Sharks, and big bottom fish.
Some of the reefs lie as little as a few miles offshore. These will give you the chance to put some fish in the cooler even on half day trips. To hunt bigger game, you'll head deeper into the Gulf of Mexico, meaning you'll need at least 8 hours on the water. Charter captains usually depart from one of Marco Island's marinas, which are easy to get to. So all that's left to do is to find the right one for you!
