Fishing was tough when we went out. We did have some scheduling issues on our end flying in from the Rocky Mountains where we still have plenty of snow and snow storms kept delaying our flight. Captain was good about working around our fly delays and rescheduling us as per what he had available. His communication could be better pre-trip he did have to cancel on us a few times as well per weather when we finally arrived. Which we understand the weather believe me we only see 3 months of summer where I’m from and we get 300 inches of snow fall annually. So we get that. But when we would cancel on us he would just send a picture of the weather forecast and not send anything else along with that. I’d have to text him and get what he’s truly saying. So that’s a bummer that all the communication seemed to have to be pulled from him. After we did end up going he stalled for a while in the morning topping the boat off and motoring around a little because he “wanted to see how the other 25-27ft boats faired going out the inlet thro the break” which I thought was odd it wasn’t that big it waves or windy. We ended getting through the break to have great seas on the other side. Fishing was super slow. But that’s fishing the fish and bait fish weren’t where they normally hang so we did his best to try to get us on stuff. We finally got our first bite about 2 hrs into the trip and they were small grunts and porgies. He uses light tackle which is surprising to me because we had a few sharks take our fish as we were bringing them up and I’d break off after a few minutes of the shark being on. He was on his phone a lot texting and calling other boat captains seeing if they had much luck. It was ok that we was checking on “where the fish were” (they weren’t doing any good) but still sucks when you Captian is on the phone the entire trip! We ended up changing tactics a few times and by total happen stance hooked a sail fish. Which is great don’t get me wrong I loved it. But it was a fishing day for sure not a hot the bite is on catching day……

Captain Charlie had some mechanical issues with his boat the day before we were scheduled to go out with him but went out of his way to schedule another charter for us. We ended up fishing with Captain Ron from Big Bite Charters who had a last minute cancellation. We ended up with about 30-40 Bonita plus a few rainbow runners, a lane snapper and a blue runner. Non stop on the fish. We just wanted to provide an excellent review for Captain Charlie because we had this trip scheduled for months and he went above and beyond to find us an alternate charter even though his was boat was down and out. Character guy for sure.

If you’re having a hard time deciding on who to book your fishing trip with, stop looking! Captain Charlie was beyond great. He is professional, and knows exactly what he’s doing!
We took our son on this charter for his 16th birthday. He wanted nothing more than to catch some Mahi. Charlie was able to make that happen!! We caught many Mahi, a little silky shark, a blackfin tuna, and a Bonita. Our son had a sailfish on the line, but that one got away.
Charlie navigated the water like a boss. He had great stories to tell, and seemed to truly enjoy what he does. Book with Captain Charlie…you will NOT be disappointed!
Thanks again!!
