Greetings Fishing Booker Community,
This weekend it was my pleasure to take a "guides day off" trip into the backcountry of Flamingo. Immeditely after stopping at our first spot, we saw a school of rolling Tarpon. According to the GoPro footage, we hooked our first Tarpon six minutes into our first stop... My guest for the day, casted and eloquently placed a plug approximately two feet from the Tarpon and that's all it took...no sooner than it felt the hooks, she put on the most classic acrobatic display! She fought strong, made long/ drag burning runs and made us earn every second on the retrieve... We used 20 lb braid, a two foot florucarbon leader and a Rapala Shadow Rap to entice her bite! We made a run to Ponce bay but turned right back due to the west wind (the 5 foot swells, didn't help). We continued our trip right were we began and closed the day with: 3 Tarpon (one in the 20-30 class with two others in the 10 lb class), 10+ Snook (most juvenile, with one close to slot) and two Snapper to close out the day.
