January 2024 Ft. Lauderdale Fishing Report January 2024 was a big month out on the water. Lots of nasty weather, a ton of trips and a whole bunch of quality fish! Between the the cold fronts, high winds and rain we made the most out of every opportunity and still got the job done. The shrimp run started off strong with tons of jumbo shrimp blowing into the inlets at night with tarpon crushing every bait they find. Huge snook showing up to get their piece of the action too! Between miami and Ft Lauderdale every night this month had a hotspot that was going off. Tarpon in the 80lb range were common and the snook were almost all HUGE. Had a few 40″+ fish to the boat. Incoming tides at night produced best in Ft Lauderdale, fished a few nights down in miami and the outgoing at govt cut was a sure thing each time. Still using some bigger baits during the day to bring up larger fish but as night closed in we were switching to shrimp. Fishing them 3 ways on floats, flatline and on split shots. Fort Lauderdale / Miami Inshore Fishing Report. Winds this week from 15-30mph not much rain and great cloud cover. Temps dropping to 60s at night. Night fishing for tarpon. As the cooler temps roll in so do the big tarpon. This week we’ve moved a bit south to the north Miami area in search of large schools of hungry tarpon. Finding them around bridges, inlets and deep water basins in the ICW. Fishing with a mix of live Mullet and Live Shrimp has been doing the trick. Fishing a few baits on bottom and a few up on top, spreading out and taking a slow approach to these large schools of fish pays off this week. Had a few great clients out on the boat and the weather cooperated as well. Most bites were right around sunset and into the early evening as the wind died down and the tides picked up. Get out there with the largest size shrimp you can find a catch a few smaller sized mullet and you will be in the running for a few of these 70-100lb tarpon.

Fishing during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show can be difficult, but with a little patience you can find some quality fish. Even with all the boat traffic there’s still a good amount of bait hanging around at the usual spots and the tarpon and snook still gotta eat. Heavy winds and mega yachts kicked up the inlet to an almost unfishable condition but just inside we found some calmer waters to concentrate on. Falling tides made for some good action on tarpon and sunset was the perfect time to land this beautiful snook on live mullet. Take your time, move around, be patient and that work will pay off.
