This Memorial Day weekend we here at Alabama Coastal Charters are thankful for our military and have the utmost respect and appreciation for those who paid the ultimate price so we may live free. Fishing was outstanding for the first two days of the season as there were numerous 20 pound snapper that were brought to the docks. There were also some really nice Cobia and King Mackerel caught in the Nearshore waters. The seas began to build on Saturday and there were hardly no boats fishing on Sunday and Monday. Congratulations to McKinzie Turner as she has likely set the new IGFA Junior Female Angler World Record with a 30lb-4oz Red Snapper. The previous record was 26 pounds. There will still have to be some documentation to finalize the catch but It looks like McKinzie should have herself a new world record! We love to see kids catch fish here at Alabama Coastal Charters! Congratulations McKinzie!

We have been checking our shallow water Red Snapper reefs and they are not only loaded with large numbers of Red Snapper but many snapper over 20 pounds. The Alabama Red Snapper season starts May 22nd and ends July 18th and will be every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday during that period of time. The majority of the back bay is closed to shrimping during May. We do however get to shrimp two areas in the bay in May and there looks to be lots of shrimp in our bay this year. The bay will re-open June 1st and we expect the shrimping to be excellent. Our 6 hour “DO IT ALL” Fishing and Shrimping Combo will allow you to catch Red Snapper, Shrimp, and have an upclose Dolphin encounter on the same charter. Lets go FISHING and SHRIMPING!! The bait is still her and the big Red Fish are here in the thousands. Our last trip we caught 21 Bull Red Fish on a 4 hour trip with two anglers! The smallest fish was 25lb and the largest was over 40lb. November will be my last month to fish this year so book now!
