Neue Vanuatu Angelberichte

Fished today with Stuart & Lisa Reid from "Fishabout Charters" in Sydney, Australia. We raised 5 Blue Marlin, caught a Black Marlin and a Mahi Mahi. At one point we switched a Blue off the teaser and at the same time a Black ate the bait on the rigger. Both fish were up and jumping, but it didnt take long for the Blue to throw the hook. Leaving Lisa to catch her first Black Marlin, with Stuart doing an expert job of talking her through it. To get a double header of 2 species of Marlin is pretty rare worldwide, and just goes to show the variety of fishing available in Vanuatu. A very cool experience ideed!

We started the day well by catching a Blue Marlin in the first few minutes of trolling. After spending the next hour or so looking for another Marlin we decided to change things up and try our luck with some baits on light tackle. This turned out to be a very good manouvre, resulting in half a dozen Mahi Mahi and a flurry of activity on deck that lasted well over the next hour! Everybody went home with plenty of fish for dinner, even me!

We caught this 45kg Yellowfin today, and also had another double header on as well. The sharks were out in force and ate the double header in minutes, which was a shame but its hard to beat mother nature....despite the interference from the Sharks our Angler was very pleased with his Yellowfin, and particularly excited about the Sashimi!

So todays adventure involved Marlin fishing in the rain. The Marlin showed up but he didnt listen to the plan, he ate a little bait lure on spinning tackle. It took a while but we managed to catch the fish on 80 lb leader and little stainless 5/0 hook. An awesome achivement for a very happy angler!

Thanks Adam Poole & Elise for coming out on sunday for a half day trip. The water temp was high and the fish all had lockjaw. We raised a spearfish that that bit repeatedly but would not stay stuck. Then Elise caught her first Mahi Mahi, so at least they had a nice fish onboard for dinner. Adam is a long term customer and I look forward to fishing with him & Elise again soon.

Team Nambas did well in the first day of the Port Vila Game Fish Classic. We managed to tag and release 2 Blue Marlin from 6 fish raised. We also caught a 30.5 KG Yellowfin Tuna and 2 Mahi Mahi. We are currently in 2nd place chasing the leaders, who managed to land 3 Blue Marlin and 3 Mahi Mahi. Heres to a good days fishing tomorrow.
