Backwater fishing with a great guide makes all the difference. We had a wonderful time.

Make sure to get a good shady hat and a good pair of sunglasses. We bought my 7 year old Great Grandson his own life jacket (USCG approved) so he didn't have to wear one of the big orange jackets that are required if we hadn't. He was much more comfortable with the one we got him for about $70 dollars. His little sister will be able to use it once he grows out of it, so money well spent!

We fished before the eclipse. So it was a tough day. Would not recommend in the future. Fish before or after.

Dress appropriately for sunny conditions with cooler temp’s in the morning.

We got caught in a bad week of weather: strong tide, rip current, shoreline flood advisory, and strong wind. BUT, it's spring break so it's not like we picked the date - kids decided to take the chance.

For spring expect weather so keep an open mind. Still a great trip with lots of good fishing.

I highly recommend fishing at Port Aransas. Further I recommend Russell and Sons for the guide. He has never let us down.

Make sure you purchase your fishing licenses the day prior and give atleast 30 minutes to do so. It requires computer data input by the associate which can take about 5 minutes a person. I do not have experience doing it online. Only used live shrimp and it was working for us all day. The fish cleaners at the dock are pretty convenient and charge about $0.50/lb.

First time for me -not sure what to expect. Next time I’ll bring warmer clothes just in case

In you are fishing in Jan. Make sure and layer clothing. Make sure you have rain gear. We layered up and down through out the day and as she said. I didn't get cold. We got our fishing license at one of the three Stripes stores on the island. Be happy with catching what is at hand. Not many Redfish around in Jan.
