On January 5 we had some guest from Sao Paulo, Brasil. A a family of 5 ready to have their first experience saltwater fishing. Two days ago we had a superb day, catching 22 Sierra Mackerels in just 3.5 hours, so we decided to try our luck on the same spot... 5 minutes after we started trolling, we got our first hit and it did not stop until we had to called a day after 4 hours of fishing. We landed 18 Sierras and released another 13... The whole family was wearing a big smile as we headed to the beach to enjoy the rest of the day. We grilled, prepared Sashimi and a fresh ceviche. It was another great day!

JAN 3 -Early in the morning we headed south looking for bait balls in the 70 to 100 feet of water. After cruising for about 25 minutes we saw a little bait ball on the surface. We started trolling with 4 light rods using X raps and Williamson Speed pro lures in no time we had our first hit and from then on it was one hit after the other (just like the name of the boat PIQUE Y PIQUE)... After 3 hours we have landed 11 Sierras, including the biggest one I have ever seen, and released another 11 to fight another day. Our 2 guest decided to head to the beach at Taboga Island were wee grilled some of the catch and made fresh ceviche for them! IT WAS A GREAT DAY!

We started the trip at 630 am, headed to one of my favorite spots to catch bait. After 30 min of trying, we only got 1 bait fish and not even the kind we were looking for. Then we went on a 20 mile ride where we started trolling for Mahi Mahi and Sailfish. After 2 hours and no bites , we decided to go close to Isla Pacheca (Pearl Islands) and troll deep diving plugs in between 40 to 60 feet of water. After an hour we only had 1 small mackerel to show for our effort. We noticed that the water was clear, cobalt blue. It was time to change tactics... "Let's try for some Wahoo" I said. We quickly changed lures and started trolling at 10 to 11 mph. And after 40 minutes... Guess what? No bites... Sudenly we see some bait crashing the surface, we got close and casted a sabiki rig in the middle of the boil... We caught 2 snapper like fish that we call Brin... 1 was about a pound and the other one was about a pound and a half. We kept trying to catch more bait, but it just didnt happen. We decided to go to the deep reefs north of Pacheca and send these baits down... We did our first drift and nothing... On our second drift... BOOM, the rod bented and reel screamed, FINALY, WE PICKED A FIGHT WITH A BIG FISH. After a 20 minute battle a hefty Almaco jack was laying on our deck! We were happy. We quickly rigged another bait and in the first drift... BOOM, a fish took the bait. We landed another hefty Almaco. It was time to rig our last bait.... We sent it down and in no time we had another nice fish on the line, a nice Yellow Snapper... Everybody was excited... 3 fish in a row in about an hour... After the third fish was landed, it was time to head back... Today was a good day. Remember guys, insist, persist and never desist.

We went 20 miles out in search for mahi and sailfish. After an hour of trolling we came across a big bait ball. The bote was on. We caught a couple of Mahi and Bonitos, but we had to stop fishing and head back. The wind was blowing hard and the sea turn nasty. On our way back we decided to stop in one of our favorite spanish mackerel spot, about 6 miles out of the marina. We deployed our spread and started trolling using small crankbaits and one XRap 30. I was telling the clients how this year we have caught 4 sailfish in this spot, when BAMMM, one small rod with a TLD 5 started screaming like crazy! A big Sailfish over a 100 pounds had taken our bait. We fought that fish for 25 minutes until we had it 10 feet from our boat. At the last minute the fish ran under the boat and the 20 pound test line snapped!... We caught 5 mackerels between 5 and 8 pound before we called the day! It was a great day!
