Talk to the guides previous to the trip to see what conditions are like, before you book. The weather was abnormal before our trip and had a significant effect on the fishing. As I understand it, fishing is usually better during the time that we booked for but, at the time of our trip, the guide had to work hard to get us into the fish. Our guide did exceptionally well at getting us hooked up with fish when other guides were having little to no success.

Do your research on your Guides. Find someone you can rely on. We were catching nice size fish when the other boats were not. Maybe it was just luck, but it was sure nice to catch fish. We drove 9 hours just to fish the Port A area.

Unless you have a boat, network with friends to find a very good charter service.
Adjust your angling hours in the summer to stay out of the heat of the day.
Wait till the reds are running in the fall and invest in good gear and a net. Set your drag correctly for you equipment and line.

We had an excellent trip!! It was a Father's Day gift to our dad. I truly believed he enjoyed it after hearing him tell his friends over over the phone what he was doing and the number of fish we caught kept increasing:)
Captain was knowledgeable and patient. Also, as a side note, we had a four hour charter and brought food for the cavalry (don't do that). Second, Captain will accept grapes for tips.
All in all it was an excellent experience!

I have fished the entire Texas coast and Port Aransas is a top two. All of the charters here both inshore and off seem to always send you home with quality fish. The boats are not all luxury vessels by any meens, but they get the job done.

I highly recommend booking a trip with Capt Jay on his sport fishing boat El Cucuy. Capt Jay is an experienced skipper who is dedicated to showing his clients a good time and doing all he can to catch fish. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and have already recommended Jay to friends who enjoy offshore sport fishing. We'll definitely fish with him again. Had a great trip.

Go with a guide or at least a chartered boat, we have used Dolphin Dock in the past, they were really good and we used Southwest Sportfishing this year as our personal fishing guide this was an even greater experience that is very unique and awesome for building memories with family and/or friends.

It was not as successful as desired. Would have liked to have caught more fish. Better time is probably spring and fall, but was still a fun experience.

Come ready to have fun and spend quality time with your friends and family. Remember it’s called fishing not catching although we did tons of catching!

Some of the fish there are seasonal. Do your homework be prepared for what time of year you are fishing and you will have an amazing time?

Talk to bait and tackle shops for guidance on whats in season, good fishing points, and what equipment is needed.

Brandon Adams
If you don't succeed, try try again. We moved around to find the fish, once we found them the fishing was great!

Just make sure you take sun protection and sweater or light jacket for your trip as it can be cool in the morning otherwise your Captain will take care of everything else for your fishing adventures.

Be realistic… not everyone in the trip is going to catch 5 fish each! Go with a great captain and you’ll have a good time regardless of the number of fish you catch!

Go when sea is calm enough to fish in the gulf as thats where the most fish are caught.

Go and have a great time fishing.
After fishing there are numerous great restaurants to enjoy.

This trip was very windy, however we had a great time and The Captain put us on the fish and we had had good tackle and the right bait. Captain was experienced and we had a great time.

Yes, but I would not recommend more than a half day in September. Once it gets hot the reds stop biting as much. October is definitely better.

March weather can be a bit on the crazy side in Texas be prepared for the conditions and be ready for some action

Select a guide to show you around and take you to the good fishing grounds. Lots of memories will be made when you or your loved ones hook up with a bid red. Enjoy!

Just be patient that the captain being guide enjoy the nature of the beauty the fresh salt water air and the banter amongst your boat in the other fisherman which is very friendly.

Take Sunblock, snacks, and Ice Chest, cause you’re going to need them all, especially the ice chest to haul your catch home.

Targeting Vermillion Snapper was great this time of year. 4-5 foot swells can be tough to deal with for not regularly seafaring patrons but managing expectations can still bring a Great experience!

Port A, is probably one of the best fishing destinations in Texas. Just make sure you have a boat and the live bait. :)

Don’t get drunk the night before. Get your room prior to arriving. Plan for the ferry. Get ready to enjoy beach life.
