What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the first time?

We tried trolling for mackerel at first about 20 miles out with no success. Captain took us out to 35 miles and bottom fished and caught a little bit of everything. 3 sharks we didn’t bring aboard, amberjack approximately 70 pounds. Lots of smaller fish and several monsters that got away.

If you are looking to go shark fishing do NOT use this boat captain. He does NOT go out for anything that large and has no idea how this trip got booked.

Go with Captain Jerry, his knowledge of fishing and of the area not only from a fishing perspective but also the environment in general lends to a great experience on your trip.

You never know what the weather can be but we got lucky with some clear skies and a cooler morning.

I would definitely book with local guys that has been living in the area for a long time. Very competitive water.

It’s a different fishery from others that I have experienced so just be flexible and let the captain put you on the fish that are biting

We didn’t catch anything bigger than 12” but there was a bite nearly every time you cast. Was a lot of fun!

Read reviews and ask captain questions before you book to be sure you are on right trip. And in July, earlier the start the better to beat the heat lol.

Fish for everything, usually there are fish to be caught year round, cant wait till I move there full time from Maryland as I was born and raised on the Chesapeake bay!!

Seek advice on the most productive type of fishing for that time of year and book that type of outing.

If fishing off the beach start early, watch the tides and check the local fishing reports, if ur heading off shore book a trip with Captain Crumb

I would wait til the end of April due to the degrees of the ocean. You would get more fish with a 68 degree water temp. But it's still fun and you still catch the fish.

Make sure it's been warm for the last couple days. Otherwise the fish will be shocked from a cold day and not want to bite.

There are better location options for your first time fishing than the Myrtle Beach area.

Start lifting weights to prepare for the big ones. Bring non drowsy dramatize. Just in case.
