Make sure you purchase your fishing licenses the day prior and give atleast 30 minutes to do so. It requires computer data input by the associate which can take about 5 minutes a person. I do not have experience doing it online.
Only used live shrimp and it was working for us all day.
The fish cleaners at the dock are pretty convenient and charge about $0.50/lb.

In you are fishing in Jan. Make sure and layer clothing. Make sure you have rain gear. We layered up and down through out the day and as she said. I didn't get cold. We got our fishing license at one of the three Stripes stores on the island. Be happy with catching what is at hand. Not many Redfish around in Jan.

I was surprised we caught as many fish as we did since I never thought October was a great time to go. Our schedules pushed us out a bit, and we were happily surprised! We caught way more fish on this one trip than we had on any of our previous ones!

Go out and enjoy your time fishing. Enjoy the scenery of the Gulf of Mexico. Make sure your phone is fully charged because the phone can quickly run out of power in the deep sea 50-miles offshore. Listen to the captain and crew. Be patient if the captain and crew has to throw the fish back in the water due to Game Warden regulations. They have rules they have to adhere to. Enjoy the fish you catch and take lots of pictures.

Great experience. I recommend Capt Jason Thornton as a guide as he has a smooth riding boat that's easy to move around on. Cold beverages (water, etc) to keep you hydrated. Very knowledgeable of the area and excellent communicator. Makes sure you have a very enjoyable trip and catch what you're intending.

Fish a full day with a guide. Live shrimp can be tough to come by in mid to late June. You will find sone if you keep checking throughout the day! June weather can be windy and UV rays high so be prepared to cover up and keep hydrated.

We heard fishing in April-May or Sep-Oct was best because of the weather. It was over 90 degrees and too windy to fish in mid June when we went. I was told Corpus Christi was in the top 10 windiest cities in the USA.

Understand that fishing is mostly about conditions, the angler’s skill, and then luck. The only thing a guide can do is get you onto fish. It’s up to you to hook them and reel them in. Catching fish is never guaranteed so go in with the right expectations and you will have a wonderful day and hopefully catch something to eat for dinner.

Here’s to anyone looking to take home some fish..I booked Captain Cortez again due to an awsome first time trip. Well what can I say Captain Cortez did it again. With out hesitation He put us on some big reds and drum.. Man I could not believe this.. I was so happy and pleased on how Awsome his trips have been. I will continue to book him as well as anyone should, trust me you will not be disappointed. Thanks again Captain you are the man….

Corpus Christi has lots to offer for anglers of all different levels of experience. If and when you do get out on the water, please wear sunscreen and reapply ever so often! Next time you are out on the water I wish you nothing but the best and fish on!

Fishing from our condo, lets say, loosing bait and catching palm size fish is not what we expected but got. Fishing from piers and jetties has been just as productive. If it wouldn't of been for booking Captain Grant's Backlash Charter's, the fishing part of our trip would of been very disappointing. If you can't bring your own boat, look for Backlash Charter's. Grant did a wonderful job!!!!!!!

We came to Corpus Christi because my dad did his flight training at the NAS, but the quality of fishing completely blew us away. We did a full day charter and then fished on our own for two more days, and we had an absolute blast. Lots of different areas to fish and very good accessibility to public waters.

We have used Captain OBT several times. He is great for tournaments or just a great day out on the water. My girlfriends and I look forward to our trips with him every year. He is patient, provides all the equipment we need, knows just where to go, and makes sure we always come back with fish! Looking forward to our 2022 trips!

If you want to catch fish theres alot of little bait shop piers to fish on. The surf is also great. I suggest if you go on a charter, find out how it works first before you pay. Alot of these guys know their stuff when ot comes to targeted fish. As long as you know the rules up front you should leave happy.

Be sure the 1st Mate is on Boat for the longer Trips and the Catch is Cleaned and Filleted as Advertised while Fishing.
Cleaning Fish after 8-Hour Trip can be time consuming and unnecessary. Not expected
Additional Expense

Lure and bait fishing in the shallows seems to be the ticket for speckled trout, drum, and flounder. The people are wonderfully friendly and helpful. We hired Laguna Lure Fishing with Captain John and couldn't be happier!

Great time and caught plenty of fish! I should have booked the whole day instead of half but still slammed a bunch of fish!

Best saltwater experience and make sure you have your saltwater fishing license either for the day or year. Won't regret.

Weather fluctuates so much. We picked a bad weekend in terms of the weather. I might wait until things settle if you’re looking to catch a lot
Zach Farnam
For spring expect weather so keep an open mind. Still a great trip with lots of good fishing.
Damon Cooper
Don't be afraid to take the long trips out to the honey hole and you won't be disappointed.

It's spring. I imagine some days are phenomenal, but the weather can be a little tough.

Many overpriced inexperienced masquerading as top notch guides. Spend some time at the marinas if you can before you book.

Captain Cody was very personable and knowledgeable. It was a wonderful first time. We will definitely call Cody again.
Dave Shorten
Have fun with your Captain and crew, and treat them with respect. They will certainly treat you with respect.
Michael Gaffney
If this is your first time. Do not waste your money trying on your own. The shore and piers really do not offer what you are looking for. Spend the money for an incredible adventure!
Matthew Reader
I think we caught a good amount of fish given that we fished using a new technique, and that there was a full moon the night before our charter.

Call Cpt Jason Thornton! Mornings are a bit busy but the afternoon was perfect! It was a windy day but the fish were biting. Bring extra water to drink and sun screen!
Anthony Dominguez
Make sure the captain can find live shrimp if not I would cancel trip and loose $90 deposit instead of paying $600 and catching 0 fish.

Don’t forget your sunscreen and secure your hats when traveling fast. Bring lots of water and ice!
