First recommendation: don't go when the water is too cold or the current is too strong.
Second recommendation: don't have only one day you can go, that way you can reschedule as the weather shifts.
None of these recommendations or my rating are meant to reflect on Poquoson or the crew I fished with. They did warn me about the weather conditions, but as my vacation was only a few days that was literally the only day I could go. So the three stars is meant as a general "hey, my experience indicates this may not be the best time of year for first-timers to head out on the water."

The fishing in Poquoson is fantastic, and you will catch multiple species. And, the scenery is beyond beautiful. You also don't have a long haul to the fishing grounds, so you get to spend more time catching than traveling. I whole heartedly recommend taking a trip here, and Marshland Expeditions will never fail to please.

We had great weather and calm water until near the end of the day when a sudden thunderstorm blew in. Great variety of fish in the area, and booking Fin-Atic Sportfishing Charters is the way to get the most out of it.

Just come prepared to have a great time and catch fish. Listen to your captain and try to learn from his experience. Makes for a great day.

Get a local to take you. The bay is shallow and you need someone to help you figure out where to go. CPT Craig told me where to go fishing after our charter and we caught fish there too.

Sonny knows every inch of the Poquoson River and if the fish are biting, he'll find them for you. Great guy and fun to spend a day with.

Go out after cobia! They are all over in the bay at this time and not too hard to get one to bite.

The fishing for Spanish Mackerel was great. We also caught a few Croaker, but they were small.
