What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Big Pine Key, Florida for the first time?

Have a backup fishing plan if the fish you are targeting are not biting. Sharks, barracuda and Goliath grouper are formidable fish that put up a good fight for any angler who wants a challenge if your target species is not available.

Great trip! My son and Captain Jim bonded immediately. After trying to make me a fisherman, Captain Jim accepted failure with dignity . Beautiful crystal clear water, fish are plentiful but Mother Nature is not to be messed with. We saw a huge water spout touchdown not far from us for about 6-7 minutes. Storms come out of nowhere and the currents are strong. If you are inexperienced hire a guide

Captain Beamer is flexible and wants you to have a great experience. I have no doubt he could accommodate all experience levels. He knows where to find the fish.

Start taking motion sickness medicine a couple of days prior to a fishing trip. Low rollers can be as bad as choppy water.

Research your guides, and come when the timing is optimum for the species you are after. Give yourself two or three days to fish.

Book a good charter. I went with a local BGS South charters and had the time of my life. Tight lines!

If you’re going to target tarpon, definitely wait until March-April. I came at the end February and it was just a tiny bit too early

The cold snap and high winds affected the fish so best to go when the water temperature is higher. Obviously can't always be planned in advance.

Check into the local bait shops and find out the current trends and locations for the best fishing because it is always changing.

Go to the No Name Pub while there. the food is good and the place has a great vibe to it. Tarpon fishing under the bridge was excellent as well!!!
