If you’re fishing in the keys for spiny lobster, Cpt Allen is your man. He knows the hot spots.. immediately taking us to a honey hole where a huge one was “caving” during the day. I’d have missed seeing him but Allen swam down and saw him hiding under a coral ledge using only his snorkel. We lured him out but I missed him as we’d just started and my net placement was poor (behind the lobster instead of netting him down from the top as Allen had instructed), but we caught many others afterwards- they just weren’t quite as big as this hog. We got a few keepers and others that weren’t so had to release the smaller by regulation size (probably caught half a dozen or more smaller ones) anndctgen 3 keepers. The experience was well worth the investment. It was educational for all of us and a lot of fun. Allen cleaned them up and we steamed them back in our room immediately after returning. Our oldest said they tasted better than Red Lobster and they were delicious!! It’s a bit too challenging for our 9 yr old and our 14yr old had a hard time as well but ut was no problem having them along in the boat. They just got bored watching. Our older two teens were all over it though!! Highly recommend this trip hands down!

Be in top physical condition and be able to hold your breath for long periods of time. Make sure you are an avid swimmer, used to salt water, strong currents, and exotic ocean life. Make sure you have quality gear. This is a very physically demanding adventure that will absolutely cleanse the soul. This trip is for thrill seekers and risk takers. I am 55, a former athlete, and strong swimmer, and this experience certainly humbled me. I cannot wait to do it again.

Keep an eye on the wind as it may look good from ashore it maybe very choppy when you get further out.

Be patient. Sunscreen. Hat. Sunglasses and lots of water. Be prepared to be hot and a little uncomfortable at times...but worth it.

Bring plenty of fluids, and light snacks. Also, lather up with sunscreen and bring lots of sunscreen, a light long sleeve shirt, and a shade hat.
