What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Virginia Beach, Virginia for the first time?

BEWARE!!! Falsely advertised air conditioning and disabled accessible features!!! First, I'd like to say that I emailed the captain April 19th 2024, in which was 3 months ahead of the trip that we needed disabled access and air conditioning. We picked For Reel Charters for these reasons alone even though they were more expensive than the others. When we got there we asked for the disabled access and was told there was no disabled access! We had to surround my disabled father with about 4 or 5 people to get him onto the boat so that he would not fall in water or hit the deck. The captain did not even offer a helping hand. The only thing he had was a small portable step stool. This caused my father to be even higher in the air when climbing in and made it even more dangerous! The captain did NOT offer to help get him back off the boat safely either. Now about the AC. It did NOT work AT ALL! Captain said it was clogged. Keep in mind there was an excessive heat warning that day. All 6 people in my group was suffering from heat exhaustion as we started to get headaches and became nauseous. It didn't matter if we were in the cabin or outside on the crowed deck due to the high heat index. Captin didn't even offer us some water. This 4 hour nightmare trip was unbearable!!! We asked the captain several times to end trip over 2 hours early but he continued to ignore us. We were held there against our will and we are considering criminal charges against him. Don't believe the lie in the description about being a luxurious charter boat. Its run down, dated and needs remodeling. Resembles a cheap roach motel on the inside. Bathroom disgusting and the beds looked like someone had been living there. Captin describes an unforgettable adventure! Yeah, he was right about that. We asked for a discount for the short trip and the problems as we should not have to pay full price for this nightmare. He refused and said he would call the cops if we didn't pay...he was disrespectful and cussed us out and he said he isn't paid to give us AC or disabled access!!! and that all he was paid to do was take us fishing only! He said the website made a mistake concerning the disabled feature. How is that our fault? He shouldn't advertise features he doesn't have. He could have at least notified us that there was issues for example when he texted that he changed the time of our trip by an hour without asking! Yes, the police came. Obviously they can not make the captain give a discount so in order to keep the peace we paid him. He would not give us a receipt! The cop said he would note payment in the police report. We will take the captain to small claims court and see what the judge has to say about it. Please don't waste your money. On top of all of this the captain drove too fast. Never stopped the boat. Used only spinner bait and no fish were caught. Captain showed no compassion, was very rude and was determined to get our money without honoring his obligation to perform the features advertised for his Charter on the fishing booker app! Again, beware!!!

Hit or miss. March is tricky. There are plenty of fish, but I wouldn't recommend it for a first time fisher until the weather broke. Your first time should be successful to fall in love with the sport.

Definitely use this charter! They have been doing this a long time and it shows! Captain Bob and his son were exemplary. I took my children and grandchildren on a charter. We caught over 20 fish. My one son got sick right off the bat and he took him back. Not a lot of captains would do that. They were very motivated to help

Spend the money and go Fishing book the 8 hour or better excursions they are more but you get what you pay for. And nothing is guaranteed in fishing so why not up your chances of landing quality sized fish where fewer boats travel.

Virginia Beach fishing is Ok, but the town its self is not friendly to people from out of town, they rip you off any way they can. If you go there to fish stay out of town and allow for time to get to your trip. The motels are in with the city to get what they can.

Virginia beach gives me small beach town vibes. Reminds me of Port Aransas or Rockport back in Texas. Fishing was definitely fun and the city is very clean. Bait shops close early so prepare accordingly. Food Lion in the city also sells bait if the shops are closed.

Weather was rough due to storm coming in....but at least we got it in. Trips the next day were all cancelled I think. Still give it 4 stars - the boat/crew did all they could with what mother nature gave us.

To remember it's up to the fish whether they're going to bite or not they're not it's not the captain or the 1st mate are captain and 1st mate were great. Our captain tried very hard to put us on fish. The captain and 1st mate were a pleasure to be around and work with.

Just know fishing can go either way. Some days you hit the jackpot, and other days you just catch some fish. But, a bad day fishing beats a good day at work, every time. Enjoy the ocean, forget the cell phone except to take photos, and have a relaxing day.

If you plan on getting out into the open water, wait a bit longer in the season than we did. I knew we would only be fishing the inlets because of the time of year we where in Virginia Beach, so I was ok with that. Just know what you're getting in for. Other than that, we had a great time.

Check the water temps and fishing reports. This year (2020) had an unusually cool May and the water temps were pretty cold at the end of May (apparently, fish like warmer temps.) We saw mostly 61 - 63 degrees while trolling. Captain and hands said late May usually had temps in the 70's, which brings more fish up from the south.

Be patient and ready to fight fish no matter where you go, because fishing off VA coast is as good as it gets. Keep in mind there’s nothing you can do about weather, but you can still have a good time.

First time fishing in general, so I can't really say much about fishing in May in Virginia Beach, we had a great time though!

Be sure of where you wish to fish, let the captain know if you can tolerate rough water and charter appropriately

Bring dramamine if you get motion sickness easily and don’t drink heavy the night before the trip haha!

The fishing was hot but a cold front left some frost on the pumpkin which made the trip a little cooler than expected.

If you want to have a nice day...catch a bunch of fish...book this boat....Capt Ryan will make your day..

Book with Fly’n Fish Sportfishing and enjoy. Parking was easy. Hit the ATM before you get there, the one there wasn’t working.

Be prepared for hot weather. Drink plenty of water and stay away from sweet drinks. Trust in the knowledge of your captain

Definitely book a private trip. It costs a little more than the group boat, but it is well with it. Check an see what's running, so you have a better idea of what to expect. Definitely a great time.

Just have fun! Follow recommendations for seasickness prevention. Wear a hat and just enjoy the beautiful ocean and Capt Weaver’s boat!

Weather is always going to be a factor along with the water temperature. Stuff you can't control but you can't go wrong using Knot Wishin and captain Todd Beck.

You can literally go as someone totally new and not knowing anything. They teach you and help you do it all.

This was trolling, not fishing. Let crew know if not interested in keeping full catch. Mate Landon did a great job fileting fish.

Virgina is great for beginners not being able to actually fish and learn how to catch the fish was our biggest disappointment

From what Capt said, spring and early summer is best fishing time for kids. Still was a wonderful trip and we did catch some good fish!

Very informative on all aspects of fishing this area of coastline. We were all from different areas of the country on a business trip. Spectacular weather and nice seas.

Have to say — Rudee Inlet is ideal if you want to get off the dock and, in less than 15 minutes, on to 42 feet of gorgeous water with the year round chance of a variety of fish.

No idea. Capt was nice enough but would not recommend the two hour afternoon “fishing” sunset cruise
