Captain Blake Nelson is the owner of Last Cast Charters. He grew up in Destin, FL, and has been fishing the Choctawhatchee Bay and Gulf Coast his whole life. He and his brother began fishing in professional Redfish tournaments after college as a hobby, and eventually, it became a career. He’s placed first in the IFA Redfish Tour and has won several other inshore fishing awards as well. In 2017, he became the world champion of the Destin Cobia Tournament after landing a 98.5 lb Cobia, the biggest one caught in 10 years. He decided to start his own charter service in 2008 because he loves meeting new people and sharing his passion with others. He’s made a lot of friends on the water and is looking forward to taking you on the adventure of a lifetime. Depending on the boat you book, your captain may also be Capt. Mitchell, Capt. Destin can get a little chilly during the winter but we still get plenty of days where the sun pops out and it feels great. No matter what the conditions, though, fish gotta eat! We target redfish, speckled trout, mangrove snapper, sheepshead, pompano, black drum, and flounder during the winter months using both live bait and artificial lures.

Bay fishing in Destin has been great the past few weeks. We are getting into a bunch of different species including redfish, speckled trout, spanish mackerel, mangrove snapper, flounder, blue fish, and black drum. Most of our fishing is with live bait casting in shallow water but we are also getting some fish on artificial lures including some big jack Krvel weighing over 20 pounds. Destin shore fishing at its best!

The temps are red hot and so is the fishing! We are still getting into speckled trout, redfish, mangrove snapper, spanish mackerel, bluefish, flounder, and a few other bay species. Fishing in Destin is pretty solid right now. There are good numbers of trout and mangrove snapper. Redfish can be a little more tricky to locate but there are still plenty on the flats to catch. We are primarily using a number of different live bait rigged on a knocker rig. Sometimes we are flylining live bait and that has been the ticket for trout when they are being finicky.i

Bay fishing in Destin, FL is in full swing right now. We have been catching a lot of redfish, speckled trout, and mangrove snapper, with some flounder and spanish mackerel as well. The forecast is looking good for the next few weeks so book a trip and lets go fishing!
