Fishing has always been a part of my life. From the age of 3, when I caught my first Largemouth Bass in Arkansas, the water and fishing is where I wanted to spend the majority of my time. When I moved to Florida in 1983, my grandfather took me under his wing and introduced me to saltwater fishing on the flats. It didn't take long before I knew I had discovered my new passion in life. I was blessed to get a boat at the age of 9 and to live in an area and time when I could explore and fish on my own. It may have only been a 14' skiff, but I felt like a world explorer. I finally had the opportunity to turn my passion into my job. I love sharing my experience, expertise, and love of the outdoors with others. For me, there is nothing better than watching someone's tension melt away as we push away from the dock and head out to the adventure that awaits. Whether the fish cooperate or not, the friendships and memories make this job the best in the world! Beginner or expert, I'm here.

I specialize in sight fishing. What does that mean? Sight fishing means we a are poling saltwater flats, hunting our fish. We enter their lair and actually look for the fish that we are going to catch. Whether they are schooled up or just in singles, this style of fishing combines the elements of hunting and fishing in one. My personal preference is fly fishing for these fish. When I'm alone, or with friends, this is our method of trying to catch fish. I've been fortunate to have learned and taught with the best fly anglers known. This allows me to have the knowledge and experience to help both novice and experienced fly anglers have success. There is no one that enjoys fly fishing more, or is more dedicated to a fly angler's success than me. Just because I love fly fishing doesn't mean it is all I do. Light tackle is in my blood and I still love throwing plugs and artificial lures at redfish, snook, tarpon and more. No matter your style, I've got you covered.

Spring Fishing
Spring Fishing
Mär. 3, 2022 Ormond Beach
Spring in Florida brings about a lot of changes, both in the weather and the fishing pattern. Keep an eye on planned trips and always be prepared for anything. Seriously, it can be 80 degrees one day and 45 the next; it's just part of being in Florida. I tell all of my clients to have gear ready for warm, cold, rainy, windy, and buggy. Then, the night before the trip, look at the weather report and go from there. It can be miserable if you don't have the right clothing. The weather changes also mean a change in the fish patterns. Most of the fish are ready to leave their winter time tactics and resume their warm weather patterns. However, a cold front pushing through can put them right back into the winter patterns. A good fishing guide will know how to adapt throughout the day and be able to locate fish; that doesn't mean the fish will necessarily cooperate and eat, but they will be found and there will be shots. Right now, snook and redfish are the name of the game. As the water temperatures rise, the snook start leaving their winter deep holes and start showing up on the flats, where they can sun themselves and warm up. These fish may be in large schools or they may be solitary fish. A good, careful approach will get them to eat, as they need the food to start preparing for the summer spawn. So far, in March, we've landed quite a few snook and we've also had our butts handed to us my some monster snook. You have to be prepared to fight these fish hard, or you will lose the battle every time. Redfish are also entering their warm water pattern, breaking out of schools and starting to cruise the shallows for their food. I'm not going to lie, these fish have been very difficult in recent weeks. The water is still clear, and with limited cover, they are very spooky. Precisions casts and keeping a low profile are key to success. We've had success on them, but it has taken quite a bit of work and finding the right fish. Don't worry about the work part, that's my portion; yours is just to put the cast in the right spot. As the weather continues to warm, tarpon and sea trout will also join in on the fun. Sea trout are just beginning and we have recently spotted several in the 8-10 pound range, resting on the flats and getting ready to start their heavy feeding on mullet and other baitfish. Tarpon are probably still about a month or so away before their main migration reaches our area.
