What to Expect
Situated at the crossroads of the Gulf and Atlantic, you can target migrating fish year round. With deep waters just 5 miles offshore, you can even catch a trophy on a half day trip.
You’ll troll for majestic Marlin and stunning Sailfish, along with delicious Mahi Mahi and Tuna. While trips to the deeper waters may see you deep drop for some of the best-tasting fish around.
The Upper Keys
The Upper Keys are mostly known for their rich inshore fishing opportunities. But there’s much more than that! Out of Islamorada and Key Largo, there’s plenty of prized offshore fishing.
Summer through fall is the ideal time for a northern Florida Keys offshore fishing charter. This is Swordfish season. These deep-dwelling beasts put up one of the best battles in the ocean. Get ready for the fight of your life and a well-deserved treat at the end of the day.
The Middle Keys
Within 30 minutes from Marathon, you’ll hit “The Humps.” These underwater canyons are a favorite haunt of numerous prized fish. Get your fish on as you troll for the usual suspects, while deep dropping may see you land a stunning Tilefish.
Out of Big Pine Key, you’ll enjoy peace and tranquility in crystal clear waters. Relax before the bite of a Marlin, Sailfish, or Tuna brings you crashing back to earth with a splash, bang, and much fanfare when you land the catch of your dreams.
The Lower Keys
Thanks to Hemmingway, Key West is synonymous with Marlin fishing. It’s no surprise, then, that some of the best offshore fishing comes out of the lower Keys. Within minutes, you can be in some of the deepest spots in US waters.
Aboard a Florida Keys offshore fishing charter you can explore the Marquesas and Tortugas islands. The Marquesas are famed for their Shark fishing, giving you the chance to land anything from a Bull to a Mako on a full day trip. Head to the Tortugas on an overnight charter and spend as long as you want battling it out with a range of pelagic beasts.
How to Prepare
Most Florida Keys offshore fishing charters will provide all the necessary fishing tackle and either bait or lures. Some captains may provide water to stay refreshed, but you should bring your own drinks and snacks, too.

Get sea sick patches from the doctor just in case (put them on the night before) and trust the crew they do this every day and don’t want you to be left empty-handed. You have to take what the ocean gives you.

Make sure you know the seasons of what fish you really want to catch. The sailfish are January-April, and mahi/tuna are June-September. So I missed both but the yellowtail snapper is what we caught and they were delicious.
