Trolling trips are somewhere between 4 and 8 hours on the water. To get to the fishing grounds, you will probably need a short ride, no more than 45 minutes.

Early in the season, you will be fishing pretty close to shore, somewhere around the 10-mile range. Spring produces Bonito, Kingfish, Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish, Skipjack Tuna, and many more. Cobia, for example, migrate through the waters of Panama City Beach in April.

The summer months are great for Kingfish, Mahi Mahi, and Wahoo.

Your captain will keep the boat moving forward at a slow speed while you will be dragging baits at various distances behind. Once your target strikes the bait, it’s game on. You will grab the rod and begin the fight. Easy!

Bottom fishing is another thing that can compete with trolling. The trips are 6 to 12 hours and can be extended all the way up to 2 and 3-day adventures. Your captain will take you to the local structures and shipwrecks in the Gulf of Mexico.

The ride usually takes 1 to 3 hours. You will be bottom fishing up to 50 miles from shore, all depending on the tides and the targeted species.

You bait your line, lower it all the way down to the bottom, and wait for the action to begin. The bait could be herring, minnows, mackerel, and whatever works for Snappers, Amberjack. Triggerfish, Grouper, and many more.
