If you’re looking for offshore fishing in the Florida Keys, Key Largo is the place to be. From the largest island along the archipelago, you’ll explore the deep waters in search of monster fish. Within touching distance of the Gulf Stream, Key Largo offshore fishing charters will take you to some of the most productive waters in the US.
What to Expect
When you think of the Keys, golden beaches and crystal clear waters immediately spring to mind. Head beyond these picturesque scenes and discover a whole other world. The indigo waters are just as clear, but you’ll have the peace and tranquility of the ocean to yourself.
Within 20 miles of shore, you’ll be out in the Atlantic. Hit "the Straits” for the bite of some magnificent migrating fish as they propel their way past the Keys in search of their next destination.
Aboard a center console or an offshore sportfishing boat, your captain will set up the trolling lines while you take in the vast expanse around you. Sit back and relax, until you hear the screech of the reels and leap into action to battle it out with a true beast of the seas.
This fishing is not for the faint-hearted, so make sure you’ve got your sea legs ready as you rock from side to side, using all your strength to guide your fish to the boat.
Expect the pulses to be racing as you go after some enormous prized Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Amberjack. If you’re lucky, you may land a Marlin or a Sailfish, too! These trophy-worthy fish will do anything to get off your line, so get ready for the fight of your life. But the rewards will be great. How many of your friends have held their very own Billfish?
How to Prepare
To get to the real hot spots, you’ll need at least 6 hours on the water. Most charter operators in Key Largo also offer reef trips. Some captains will advertise specific trips, but others will ask you to get in touch. Check that your captain is ready to take you offshore.
On your Key Largo offshore fishing charter, you’ll have everything you need for a productive day on the water. Make sure to protect against the elements with sunscreen and appropriate clothing, and bring some food and drinks aboard. A whole world of thrilling fishing awaits just out from Key Largo.

The character and approach of the captain matters. Captain needs to listen to his customers and not choose what suits him better. I would highly recommend Jason even if we would have no fish on the boat but we did .

Lock It Up Charters
We really deferred to Pete’s expertise on where to go and when. He gave us a call on our first scheduled day and said the seas were going to be rough, and suggested that while he’d be happy to take us out, we might want to reschedule. Glad he did that as the day we went was perfect.

If you think anyone in your party might be susceptible to motion sickness then make sure you bring Bonine or Dramamine. Happy fishing.

Be patient and help find the fish!! We looked for weed lines, structure, anything that holds fish. Stay alert because when you find them it gets wild pulling Mahi off a giant school of fish! I have fished here several times but this was my first Rodeo. Gotta have baits in the water to catch them. :-). Go get em.

The summer is busy along with winter season - book your fishing trips out by a couple months as you don’t want to not get on that water! And don’t forget about mini open lobster season in July as it will be very busy!
