Flats
If you’re a seasoned angler then a trip to the flats won’t disappoint. Your best bet of landing the Grand Slam is in these murky waters. Utilize all your skills and cast without disturbing the spooky fish around you. As you feel the bite, you’ll know that you’re in for a thrilling battle.
Most Key West inshore fishing charters take place aboard skiffs or flats boats. Your captain will power the boat with a push pole, allowing you to navigate even the skinniest of waters. You’ll mainly sight cast, so keep your eye out for boats with a casting platform.
How to Prepare
You’ll want to cover up from the sun. Wear long sleeves, a cap, and bring sunscreen. Check with your captain if they provide water, but you’ll want to bring some snacks and drinks of your own too.

Key West Charter Fishing – Shallows
These were great for anglers with little to moderate experience with Gulf fishing, and they’d be good for people with more experience. We caught a wide variety of fish and had fun. The 2 captains were a cool twist as both were very knowledgeable and very helpful. I would highly recommend these guys.

If you are looking to fish for specific species and have the flexibility to schedule your trip and any month, I would recommend just talking with Captain Maryann. She sincerely wants her clients to have great experience, is very easy to talk to and seems very kind and honest!

Lastly be sure to have one of the local restaurants cook part of your catch. There is nothing better than freshly caught fish and these restaurants do a wonderful job preparing it.
