We hooked a lot of red snapper but couldn’t keep because they are out of season. A lot of our fish were too small to keep but we caught a lot and we would have done mostly catch and release anyway because of not having room/cooler to take a lot of fish home on our 14 hr car ride home.

Temperature changes fast so bring cold weather clothes. Be careful to choose a place on or near the island. The search feature will give you options that appear close because of the distance but it doesn’t show that it’s a 2 hour ride around the bay.

Go fishing with Captain John! He is the kindest and most encouraging of the fisherman that we had ever met. We had a terrible experience on another excursion in the Atlantic by a total loser who insulted our fishing skills. So we were a bit nervous about what John would be like. And John surpassed our expectations with kindness and enthusiasm. He's a good dude. And we are "hooked" on doing this every family vacation now!

Check the weather, we went on a cooler morning so the fish did not start biting until later, so maybe consider an afternoon trip instead of early morning. We were down in early October so I think the weather changing and the full moon affected some of the fishing. However the Captain was great and did everything he could in the 3hrs we had to get us some fish. He was not the only Captain that was having issues with catching fish this trip.
