Salmon fishing in Seattle is a seasonal highlight for every angler in the Pacific Northwest. You can target Chinook, Coho, Chum, and Pink Salmon in the waters of Puget Sound, with each species being special in their own way. They migrate at different times and their numbers vary, but one thing is for sure – there’s always Salmon to catch near Seattle.
You’re most likely to target Chinook Salmon, since they’re the most numerous. In addition to a resident juvenile “Blackmouth” population, you can catch large Chinooks in summer. Coho and Pink Salmon fishing is the best in September, followed by Chum in November.
You can try out different fishing techniques, depending on how much you want to be involved. Have a go at “mooching,” a local technique that’s fun and keeps you active, as you’re moving the bait until you feel the bite. Other popular ways of catching Salmon are trolling, jigging, and fly fishing.
Local charters offer a range of trips, depending on how much time you want to spend on the water. You can make the most of your time on board even if you take a 5-hour trip. But more time spent on the boat always means more fish. If you want to try out a number of techniques, better take a full day trip! It was warm but not until around 10. Otherwise the sites were beautiful and the fish were biting a lot!! A few dog fish but we caught way more salmon than dog.

Check regulations on limits. Two fish is the limit. Assess whether a shorter trip than six hours is appropriate: we booked six hours, however only fished three because we had reached our limit, and the Guide was hesitant to continue catching and releasing, even though the hooks were barbless. as a guide myself, I totally understand this stance. Overall great trip.

The salmon moved around and so did we. The captain put us on top of bait balls. We caught our limit of coho within 1.5 hours. We did 1 more hour of C n R. We went on to fishing for flounder. The action was continuous.

Could just be the season but there was a ton of bait fish but also almost an infestation of dog sharks who would grab your bait before most salmon had a chance.
