Sonnenbarsch Angeln in North Carolina
Sonnenbarsch Angeln in North Carolina
(Pomoxis annularis / nigromaculatus)
Home to a range of exciting freshwater game fish and with plenty of offshore action, North Carolina is a paradise for anglers. This diversity allows the Crappie to go under the radar. This delicious Panfish, loved all across the US, is a fun target for anglers of all abilities. Fortunately, over 90% of NC’s freshwater sources contain these beauties. Come Crappie fishing in North Carolina with a guide and get the most out of the state’s rich waters.
Where to Go
With so many spots to choose from, it’s difficult to know where to go fishing for Crappie in the Tar Heel State. If you only want to target Black Crappie, you can stick to the eastern third of the state. However, fishing the waters west of Raleigh will allow you to go after both Black and White Crappie.
Some of the best inland fishing in NC comes just outside its two major urban centers. If you’re based in Charlotte, then you’ll have a world of fishing on your doorstep – almost literally. Hit up Lakes Norman and Hickory for some proper North Carolinian fishing, or head to the border with South Carolina and fish Lake Wylie.
Out of the capital, there’s also a wealth of freshwater lakes to discover. Fish the Harris Lake in the southwest, or explore the almost 12,500 acres of the Falls Lake and you’ll never go bored. In stunning settings, you’ll follow the fish around, trying to fill the boat with hit, after hit, after hit.
The fun doesn’t end there! In the north of the state, along the border with Virginia, lies the state’s biggest lake. In Kerr Lake, the fishing opportunities are endless. The beauty of fishing here is that you won’t need to worry about where you stray. Fish up and down the lake, across state lines, and your NC license will cover any fish you take.
What to Expect
Going after Crappie is fun for the whole family. Small, light, and not much of a fighter, they’re the ideal fish to get the kids hooked on fishing. Not only that, but you can expect to reel in a boatful with relative ease, giving everyone the chance to contribute to that night’s dinner.
Head out in spawning season for the best results. Between March and July, you’ll find scores of these tasty creatures all over the place, eager to bite, and easy to hook aboard. More experienced anglers can also enjoy the thrill of seeking them out when not in season.
Trips can last as short as two hours or as long as eight hours, depending on whether you’re looking for your fishing fix or a relaxing, yet productive day on the water. Fishing shallow waters, you’ll be aboard a light boat, getting you to the trickiest corners to hunt the cowering fish.
How to Prepare
Before hopping aboard any North Carolina freshwater fishing charter, you’ll need a fishing license. Find out how with our user-friendly guide. Your captain will take care of all your fishing gear and live bait, so all you need to do is bring some drinks and snacks and settle in for a thrilling day’s fishing. Get ready to reel ‘em in and fill your freezer when Crappie fishing in North Carolina.
