The Canary Islands are not only one of Spain’s most popular tourist destinations. They’realso one home to some of the best fishing grounds in Europe. The subtropical climate makes them an excellent vacation spot, as well as a great habitat for fish. You’ll find plenty to catch all year round on your Canary Islands fishing charter.
You can start off the year in January with fish like Mackerel and Barracuda. In March you’ll encounter Albacore, Bigeye and Yellowfin Tuna. These make way for White Marlin in May. June marks the start of big game season, as Blue Marlin, Mahi Mahi and Wahoo arrive. And September is a good month to fish for various Seabreams, before Mackerel and Barracuda rule the waters again.
For an entirely different adventure, try fishing for Carp and Black Bass on Gran Canaria. There are several dams, lakes, and rivers that have excellent freshwater fishing if you’re not the seafaring kind, or if you’re simply looking for some variety.
In Tenerife, you’ll find the largest selection of fishing charters and therefore the largest variety of fishing trips. Choose between shorter adventures fishing along the coast, or go for a long trip to troll for Marlin and Tuna. The smaller islands of La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro are all about big game – they have great access to offshore fishing grounds. And if you’re looking for Tuna, definitely visit Lanzarote.
