Angeln in Martha's Vineyard

Fishing can't be anything but superb when a place is surrounded by Vineyard Sound, Nantucket Sound, and the Atlantic Ocean. Martha's Vineyard is the epicenter of these prolific Massachusetts fisheries. Now that you know where your next angling adventure lies, all you have to do is secure your spot aboard one of the top-notch Martha's Vineyard fishing charters.

The "Land amid the Streams" is home to world-renowned species like Marlin, Shark, and Tuna. While these giants are true royals of the deep blue, Striped Bass and Bluefish are the local favorites. Stripers and Blues are so popular that they have a fishing tournament in their honor. Apart from these celebrities, you can also cross paths with Fluke, Bonito, False Albacore, Scup, and Tautog.

All species are usually available year-round. The fishing frenzy, however, starts in spring and reaches its peak in summer. The hottest season of the year will bless you with both inshore and offshore angling opportunities. Pier fishing will reward you with Scup and Blues, but the big game trophies hide further offshore. You'll need at least a full day trip to land these monsters.

Be it surf casting, pier angling, or an offshore pursuit, the island will cater to your needs. From Lobsterville Beach to Wasque Point, this place boasts numerous shore fishing corners. Pier fishing enthusiasts and deep sea anglers will appreciate what Oak Bluffs has to offer, too. Its harbor is an exceptional departure point for many Martha's Vineyard fishing charters.

Regeln & Vorschriften

The best perk of exploring these waters with a certified captain is that Martha's Vineyard fishing charters come with all the permits needed. If you're angling on your own and you're 15 or older, you'll have to buy a recreational fishing license. Also, size and bag restrictions differ depending on the fish. Make sure you're on top of the latest rules and regulations before heading out.

January

What better way to start your year than by exploring the fisheries around Martha's Vineyard? The beginning of the year brings the celebrities of the East Coast – Cod and Pollock. Be it winter or summer, these guys won't disappoint.

February

The temperatures are low, but fishing is hot. With Cod steadily meandering and Pollock gradually improving, you'll warm up in no time. And after a long day of battling these perky fellas, reward yourself with a hearty Cod meal.

March

Now that the winter slumber is over, more species are starting to emerge and will be in full swing soon. Spring announces the arrival of more headliners like Flounder and Haddock. They'll be around for quite some time, too.

April

With Flounder and Haddock in abundance, you'll quickly reach your bag and size limits. They're hungry and won't be able to resist worms and clams. So, you know what to do if you want a finger-licking dinner.

May

May is the unofficial beginning of the fishing season. The fish species are numerous, but available fishing charters are already becoming scarce. This is the ideal time to team up with a local captain before it's too late.

June

Striped Bass, Bluefish, Cod, Flounder, Haddock, Atlantic Mackerel, Black Seabass, Scup, Tautog – early summer has them all! The fishing frenzy has started and you want yourself amid that reel screaming action.

July

When the Oak Bluffs Bluewater Classic tournament begins, you'll know that serious fishing is about to unfold. The offshore excitement has been building up for weeks and it's slowly but surely reaching its peak.

August

The deep blue royals are waiting for you, and it's high time you went after them. This is the moment for Tuna and Sharks to shine. Don’t forget, Martha's Vineyard Sharks have already been immortalized in the famous movie "Jaws."

September

Late summer is when the local favorites are on everyone's radar. With the Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby around the corner, Stripers and Blues will soon be on every angler's menu.

October

If you thought that your tight lines were loosening, think again. The Derby is going strong with Bluefish and Striped Bass dominating these waters. And it's about time Tautog entered the scene as well.

November

Colder fronts don't mean less fishing. Winter just makes room for species other than Tuna, Bass, and Bluefish to rule the area. For the next couple of months, you'll cross paths with Cod, Pollock, and Mackerel.

December

You can still wet your line and find fish at the end of it. While you won't end up empty-handed, Martha's Vineyard is still primarily a summer colony, so, December might not show you the island in its full glory.
