These barrier islands are famous for their world-class flats fishing, most notably for Redfish and Speckled Trout. These pristine waters also hold healthy populations of Black Drum, Sheepshead, Jack Crevalle, Cobia, Flounder, and many more. If you’d like to explore deeper waters, you can head to the Gulf and target Amberjack, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Red Snapper, and Tuna.
Local charters offer half day, full day, and extended day trips. On a half day trip, you’ll most likely stay inshore in calm waters – a perfect option for beginners or families with kids. Longer trips will see you fishing further offshore, targeting larger species. These trips are great for more experienced anglers looking to fish multiple spots and target a wide range of species.
Some key spots to check out inshore are Shoalwater Bay and the Chandeleur Sound, to the west of the islands. To the east and to the south, you can explore the Gulf and target larger pelagic species. Captain Evan was fabulous. He was very knowledgeable, explained what we caught (spotted trout, white trout, catfish and about 4 other types), told us history of the area we were fishing and as a bonus gave great recommendations for places to eat around the area. We also saw dolphins and Captain Even took time to stop for us to watch them. Highly recommended Captain Evan and Frayed Knot Charters!!

We had so much fun. The Captain and 1st Mate were awesome. They both knew so much about the area and where to find the fish. We caught Red's, sharks, Snapper, Trout, black drum and a stingray. We put the out of season and stingray back. Best fishing trip we have ever gone on. We will Definitely use them again.

Captain and mate had a lot of experience and it showed. Jason (the mate) knew what to do and how to catch fish. We were well taken care of. My wife (74 years old) caught her first deep sea fish. A memory that cannot be repeated. The Capt of Double Ace knew where to go from years of experience and did not hesitate to share his wealth of locations, what to expect and how to catch fish. Scott was raised in the area, so knows the location well. He is pleasant to talk with and his knowledge of the area's history is quite fun to hear. He was very attentive to making sure your hook was kept baited, so you were fishing the entire trip. Most amazingly for a fisherman, I didn't hear a single curse from the man.
You do need to read his messages carefully. I didn't and hadn't realized he only accepts cash until the night before we left.
Well worth the charter.
