The Walleye capital of the world – Lake Erie – will show you what it means to fill your bags, while the Vermilion River will grant you easy access to the best fishing grounds with more than 3,000 boat slips and ramps.

While Walleye should definitely be on your bucket list, there’s a variety of other freshwater species that inhabit these waters. You can expect to run into anything from White Perch, Smallmouth, and White Bass, to Catfish. Yellow Perch is a fall favorite, and the “Silver Bullet” (Steelhead) is an offshore gem.

If you’re planning a family outing, a half day trip is your best choice, giving you some precious time on the water while also providing you with a nice catch. If you’re up for a challenge, drift or troll for Walleye and Steelhead on a full day trip. Evening and night trips can be a fun choice if you want to experience the lake from a different perspective.

Vermilion fishing trips usually leave from Don Parsons Marina, Romp’s Water Port Marina, or one of the slips down the river. Once you choose your adventure, your guide will make sure to fill you in on all the rules and limits. Get your fish on and fill that freezer!

July marks some of the productive fishing on Lake Erie. A variety of species are biting, including Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Yellow Perch, and Catfish.

August

This is a great time to target Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch, and Catfish. There are free concerts in town for some fun after a day of fishing.

September

This is when Steelhead, Bass, and Walleye are biting in Lake Erie. You can head to town for the big Woollybear Festival in October.

November

You’ll find that Steelhead, Walleye, and Yellow Perch are all biting, so head out and fill your bags!

We had a great trip with Captain Mike and Mate Phillip. Captain was very personable and knowledgeable. Mate was on top of his game and kept us baited with line in water the whole trip. The Captain discussed some area history, spotted some bald eagles, and put us right in top of fish. 10/10 recommend Salty Dog Charters for a very fair priced half day fishing adventure on Lake Erie.

We took a charter with captain Mike and his mate, Philip in August. We had such an amazing day, and got a tour of the Vermillion area on the boat. They were so welcoming and fun to be with! They were so helpful with providing hotel information and answering any questions prior to the charter. They catered appropriately to some beginners and more experienced fishers. This was our family’s first charter experience and captain Mike and mate Philip made it a great experience! Leading up to the day of our charter, captain answered all of my “new to this” questions. Lucked out with a last minute booking with Captain Mike for a half day trip. Started hitting almost immediately. Brought home a nice catch of walleye for dinner. Hit plenty of sheepshead (including a couple of monsters) and a huge cat. Plenty of stories, some even true! Lots af laughs. Definitely booking again! Thanks Mike!
