The Tar Heel State is renowned worldwide for its fishing, and there are few better places to explore it than Carolina Beach. Located on Pleasure Island, it’s the meeting points of the Intracoastal Waterway, Cape Fear River, and the Atlantic Ocean. And who better to show you the riches of casting a line here than one of the numerous Carolina Beach fishing charters?
There’s a reason this place is so well-known: its abundance of fish. Inshore, you’ve got Flounder, Redfish, Red Drum, and Speckled Trout. Nearshore, Mackerel is a favorite, while Black Seabass, Cobia, Amberjack, and Groupers and Snappers are possible, too. And it just gets better offshore, with Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Tuna, and Billfish all in the cards.
Beginners and families can get acquainted with the local inshore scene, with trips lasting anywhere from a couple of hours to a full day. Nearshore options usually start around the 4-hour mark, also going up to the full day to give you the chance to explore some sunken wrecks and other artificial reefs. But if you’re looking for a big game hunt, you’ll want upwards of 10 hours to get your hands on the pelagics. This is fishing for true adrenaline-seekers.

Morning trips in September produce a little more from what I understand. But we caught some and missed alot on our evening charter. Not used to having bait sucked off the hook being a bass guy from Pa. Lol

Captain Mason had us on the fish for the entire trip. We got about 15 pounds of Red Fish. We also caught Black Drum, White Drum, Sheepshead, Croakers and a Black Tipped Shark. My arm is still a little soar from reeling in those huge Red Fish. Worth the money.

Captain Mason knew where to take us to get black drum, we caught a bunch and all were a good size, one 7-8 lbs- what a fight it put up!!! We also caught a few red drum and pin fish. I would definitely recommend that you use him.

Today was awesome. Cpt Tony is very hands on guy. We never baited hook or ta fish off. He even cleaned and filleted them for us. We caught several puffer fish and some little blue fish but the catch of the day was made by my daughter. She caught a fairly large Sheepshead. I hope we can do this again next Spring Break.

captain James put us on fish right away and kept us in them. Jack worked his tail off getting fish off the lines and getting lines back in the water. We had so many fish that sometimes all 4 lines were hitting at the same time. As a bonus, on the way back in the channel we saw 3 dolphins. What a great experience. I can't recommend these guys highly enough.

We took 2 of our grandchildren for their first time of deep sea fishing. We chose to do bottom fishing. Unfortunately the fish were not really cooperating. So Captian Nick and his mate and suggested that we try some trolling and that was our best decision. We couldn’t reel in the fish fast enough before the next one was hooked. They loved the experience and would love to do it again. Thanks again Captian Nick and Shane we had a wonderful time even though my husband did get seasick.

Had a great trip with Mason. I’ve done charters but my wife and daughter had not. Mason was good with everyone and helped each person appropriate to their skill level. Everyone caught good fish and we had a great black drum fish taco dinner!

Capt James and his first mate, Jack were outstanding. We caught over 70 Spanish Mackerel in under 3 hours. My two young boys had an absolute blast. It was nonstop action from the time we set the first line. I would HIGHLY recommend booking a charter with him. We’ll be back again next year. The kids can’t wait.

Took my grandson fishing for first time in a boat. We caught fish within 5 minutes at our first stop! Caught black and red drum, very impressive for late March. Cap'n Porter sure knows where to find them. Fine boat and tackle. He was great with the boy, taught him casting with spinning reel, answered lots of questions. Couldn't have been better. Highly recommended! We'll do it again when the boy is back in town. Thanks, Mason!

My kids and I thoroughly enjoyed our fishing experience with Captain Mason. He engaged in conversation with my both My kids, and casted every line for my youngest. My 10 year old never enjoyed fishing before, but you couldn't contain his excitement once he started reeling in one after another. I can't thank Mason enough for such a fun filled afternoon.
