We couldn’t have made a better choice than going with Captain Owen at Capital Blues Charter Fishing! As a family of five with three young kids (ages 8, 6, and 2) trying fishing for the first time, Captain Owen made sure we all had an unforgettable experience. He was incredibly knowledgeable and went above and beyond to ensure that each of us caught a fish, making it such a fun day for the whole family. His patience and skill with the kids were outstanding, and he even helped us with cleaning and filleting our catch, which was a huge help. We’d definitely return for another trip on the Potomac River with Captain Owen – highly recommend for families and first-timers!

My daughter booked this trip for us on my visit from Michigan. We both have some experience fishing and she chose Capital Blues and Captain Owen. What a marvelous time we had. Owen was polite, professional, knowledgeable about all things Potomac and a patient and enthusiastic teacher of fishing.
His boat was excellently appointed with everything a fisher person needs to score big. Rods and reels are of high quality, the boat clean and comfortable, cold beverages were provided and Owen clearly knows how to sniff out the big blues. My daughter out fished me and landed a 33 pounder, a 20 pounder and a 13.5 pounder. I was left to “sulk” with a 22 pounder and multiple fish weighing in the teens. What a fabulous day with my beautiful daughter, all thanks to Owen and his Blue Catfish magic. I was pleased to hear that the fish we kept were going to be donated to help support folks temporarily housed in a shelter.
Needless to say, we will do this again!!!

Owen and I went out on what turned out to be about a half day trip on a Friday afternoon in late September.  We left the slip around 1515 and set out south along the Potomac channel just past the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to Jones Point where we caught live bait to add to the supply Owen already had ready. Starting by Jones Point and casting out about six lines Owen quickly got us going. Before long I caught my first fish ever. It was pretty big about 14 inches long and a couple pounds. 
Continuing from there Owen, shared the history of region from water. I have lived in the DC region on an off for over 8 years in my lifetime and didn’t know half of the history of the Potomac reclamation efforts to build what is now known as Ronald Reagan International Airport at Gravely Point in 1938. Moving upriver towards the 14th street Bridge I then learned about the plane crash in 1982 where a plane weighted down with ice crashed just after taking off from then the Washington National Airport. He even had a PDF on his tablet put together to provide information while on the water and passing different parts of the city.  We continued to fish while moving south down the Potomac before enjoying some grub near while we watched the sun set from underneath the I-295 Oxen Hill Creek bridge.
Picking up after the sunset, we then did what amounted to some early night fishing catching a few bigger fish of the day. By 2200 we were ready to call it a night.

Absolutely had a blast with Owen on the water, not only learning how to fish but about how to read the sonar, find and catch bait fish, and the history from the water’s edge. One of the better parts of the trip is that all the fish that we caught together was fileted and donated to a local shelter near Fort Belvoir. I think in all nearly 5 lbs of filet was donated from our haul that day.
Definitely recommended chartering with Capital Blues Fishing Charters and having Owen you and your friends or family out on the water to fish a little and learn a little while you do it.

It was my first at time fishing, and I wanted to share the experience with my wife and little girl.

We caught plenty of catfish, some big, and some, as my 4 year daughter called them, babies haha.

Owen is the best. As you can imagine getting the wife and kid out early is a struggle but Owen was understanding and never rushed. He gave us a great experience.

Our time on the water was magnificent, the juxtaposition between busy Washington and the calming nature of waiting for the fish to bite is something you don’t experience often. This is a unique way of seeing Washington and Owen provides some background history of our great nation’s Capitol while seeing the great landmarks from an angle we’d eve never seen before. You notice little details you’d noticed before.

I scheduled a surprise birthday fishing trip for my fiancé and thanks to Owen, we had an AMAZING time!
