Start your gigging adventure with Just A Fluke Gigging Charters! Your host and guide is Captain Matt, who’s been fishing his whole life. He mastered a lot of techniques and learned how to catch various species, and moved his focus to Flounder gigging in 2009. With over 10 years of experience, he’ll get you on Flounder before you even know it.

The NC recreational Flounder season runs this year from Aug 16 - Sept 30. The season closure for this entire year should make for some exceptional gigging when it opens, with fast limits and plenty of big fish. Another trait of gigging trip is that they all start in the evening, so some guests will have their first night-fishing experience.

You’ll be fishing on an 18’ Alweld boat that accommodates up to 3 guests. This aluminum fishing vessel is powered by a 70 HP Yamaha engine and easily reaches high speeds. However, you’ll mostly need to go slowly and avoid spooking the fish.

Your fishing equipment is covered by the captain and he also takes care of your license. There’s bottled water on the boat but feel free to bring other drinks and snacks. Check with the captain what clothes are best for these trips and you’re ready to go.

I grew up on the East Coast mainly offshore fishing for Tuna. I spent most of my teenage years chasing fish from NJ to NC. I lived 8 years in Hawaii commercial fishing for Tuna and Marlin. I ended up moving to NC in 2005 and began inshore fishing along with Flounder gigging. In 2009 I began commercially Flounder gigging and have been doing that for over 10 years now. I have helped a friend run offshore charters for the past 2 years. This will be my first year starting into the Flounder gigging charter business.
